The Nittany Epicurean: 2017 Aridus Wine Company Petite Sirah

2017 Aridus Wine Company Petite Sirah

We last traveled to Arizona to enjoy a wine from Aridus Wine Company a few weeks before Christmas. In early December, we enjoyed a stunning grenache - the 2016 Grenache produced & bottled by Aridus Wine Company. Today, we'll be returning to Willcox to enjoy another Aridus red wine:

2017 Petite Sirah produced & bottled by Aridus Wine Company (Willcox, Arizona).

This wine is 100% petite sirah from Cochise County. Following fermentation, the wine was aged for 28 months in a combination of 80% new French oak, 10% new Croatian oak and 10% neutral oak barrels. It comes in at 14.9% ABV.

Here it is in the glass:

The wine showed a dark garnet almost opaque color. Cherry, raspberry preserves, currant, smoke, loamy earth and oak could all be found on the nose. Black cherry, raspberry preserves, vanilla, licorice, eucalyptus and oak followed on the palate where the ripe cherry stole the show. The wine was full-bodied and exhibited great length along with soft tannins. This wine would pair well with a classic preparation of Shepard's Pie.

This wine* can be purchased for $39 in one of the winery's tasting rooms or directly from its website.

More to come from Aridus Wine Company!
